Are you ready to go back in time through the lens of music? It’s officially June which means Naper Nights is about to kick off the event of the summer at Naper Settlement, starting June 14, 2019. Naper Nights will also have weekends in July and August for visitors to attend.
Abbey Bobzin, communications team leader at Naper Settlement, says that Naper Nights is a way to “celebrate the history of rock through the generations with a dynamic line-up of tribute bands each month.” She says the concerts help to bridge the gap between history and pop culture. While there will be plenty of music throughout the six nights of concerts, there will also be food, drinks, activities for the kids and a charity component. Additionally, the tips earned from Naper Nights will go straight toward a local nonprofit, Bobzin adds. Naper Nights is the perfect event to have fun and support a worthy cause!
However, Naper Nights wasn’t always a multi-day event. Bobzin explains that before Naper Nights, there was Naperville Summer Nights that kicked off in 2006. This was a one-day only concert. A few years later, after the inaugural Naperville Summer Nights, Naper Settlement transformed the event into a concert series that the community now knows as Naper Nights.
“It’s really become a tradition for many families each summer,” Bobzin says. According to Naper Settlement’s consensus, more than 10,000 people attend Naper Nights each summer. This event manages to bring the Naperville community together through music.
This year, Bobzin says their choice in bands for 2019 was inspired by historical anniversaries of events in America. “In conjunction with the Naperville Heritage Society’s 50th anniversary, each month’s line-up is curated around a special milestone in history,” she says. June 14 will pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of Naperville Heritage Society’s volunteer organization that crafts and sells dried floral bouquets and arrangements, the Weed Ladies; July 20 will honor the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing; and the entire weekend in August is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. Naper Settlement has ensured that each tribute will also bring different styles of music to those who attend Naper Nights this summer. There certainly is something for everyone.
Naper Nights is truly a unique community event for Naperville, and there are many factors that make it special to each person who attends. “It’s a multi-generational event where patrons, young and old, can come out for an immersive night of music,” Bobzin says. “It’s heartwarming to see grandparents bring their grandkids to hear the music they grew up with. Naper Nights has become a very nostalgic and personal experience for our guests year after year.”
Naper Nights takes place June 14-15, July 19-20 and August 16-17 at Naper Settlement. Make sure to buy your tickets, which can be purchased at napersettlement.org before the event or at the gates upon arrival. Grab your friends or family for a night of great music and fun.
